Art Heals

In April 2026, Creative Waves launched Art Heals, a community led project bringing large scale artworks into the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital in Tortola.

Five BVI artists led the way to create a piece in collaboration with a chosen group from the community, resulting in works that reflect shared experiences, time and contribution from many hands. The final pieces were installed in the hospital, creating a more welcoming and thoughtful environment for patients, visitors and staff.

The final installations include Healing Moments by Via Donovan-Hodge (with Imagination Academy and sponsor Gold Leaf Consulting), Calm Resilience by Esau Andrews (with The Art Lab and sponsor Caribbean Insurers Ltd.), Window of Hope by Darryl Bess (with the BVI Diabetes Association and sponsor House of Luxury), Healing Dream by Walden Benjamin (with Lemonade BVI and sponsor BCQS), and Serenity in Bloom by Sim Llewellyn (with Elmore Stoutt High School and sponsor Trident Trust).

The project was rooted in the idea that the spaces we move through during difficult moments matter, and that art can play a role in bringing a sense of calm, comfort and connection.
